KimoA compostable toddler shoe
with Branko Vulin, 2023

•In Europe, 2.5 billion shoes end up in the trash annually because glued soles are difficult to recycle.
•Especially children‘s feet grow quickly and therefore need new shoes more often than adults.

„Minimize“ as a task in this project stands for less material, fewer components, shorter process times, and minimizing the ecological footprint.
Starting from this situation, Kimo was created in an experimental process. The sole, cast from mycelium and natural rubber, can completely decompose biologically. The durable Velcro strap can be used over several shoe sizes and is not thrown away when the sole is damaged or no longer fits.
